The Reality Check
Beautiful campus, built entirely uphill.
Walking from Pusan Nat'l Univ. Station Exit 3 to the main gate takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes, and it is not flat. With heavy bags or in rain, take a local town bus from Exit 1 or 3, or use the taxi copy-card below.

University information on this page is reviewed with Korea Study Guide, an independent education advisory platform. Korea Study Guide can help you understand study routes, assess your profile and prepare for the application process.
The free profile review covers a look at your academic background, which study routes and universities may fit, and what documents you would need to prepare. It is guidance only: it does not submit applications for you and does not guarantee admission or a visa.
Programs
A broad national university with a serious academic atmosphere.
PNU is one of Korea's major national universities, with a broad academic profile spanning humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, business, medicine, pharmacy, law, and the arts. International students enter through the Office of International Affairs at Sangnam International Hall, 1F.
Academic Fields
PNU offers a full slate of colleges across most major fields, but not all of them are open on the international special admission track. PNU's 2026 Fall undergraduate international special admission guideline prices tuition for Humanities, Business Administration, Economics and International Trade, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Human Ecology, Nursing, Engineering, Information and BioMedical Engineering, the School of Transdisciplinary Engineering, the Global Open Major Division, the Arts, and Natural Resources and Life Sciences. Medicine, Dentistry, Korean Medicine and Pharmacy do not appear in that table and are not open on this track. Nursing is open, at the natural sciences rate. Availability, language of instruction and requirements change each cycle, our education partners confirm the live catalogue for your profile.
Language of Instruction
Mostly Korean, with English support.
Daily campus life and most undergraduate teaching runs in Korean. PNU does offer English admission information, an English-friendly International Office and selected English-medium courses, but international students are expected to build TOPIK competence through the PNU Language Education Institute (KLI) over the first year, and TOPIK level is what unlocks PNU's own tuition scholarships. Current Korean course terms and fees live at https://lei.pusan.ac.kr, not on the International Office summary page, which was still showing 2025 dates and fees in August 2026. Ask our education partners for the current list of English-medium tracks.

Admissions
Start with PNU International, they run every step.
All international admissions, visa, dormitory, insurance and Student ID questions route through the Office of International Affairs at Sangnam International Hall, 1F. The official page for international undergraduate applicants is Admissions for Undergraduate at https://international.pusan.ac.kr/international/15256/subview.do, and the actual 모집요강 (admission guideline) PDFs for each intake are posted on the Admission Notice board at https://international.pusan.ac.kr/international/15210/subview.do. The contact printed on the admissions page is iadmission@pusan.ac.kr, +82-51-510-3856. Ignore the thin English stub at www.pusan.ac.kr/eng, it carries a mailing address and nothing else, no dates and no requirements. Have our education partners verify the live cycle dates and document checklist before you start translating or apostilling, because requirements shift each intake.
Korean Language Pathway
PNU Language Education Institute
The PNU Language Education Institute (부산대학교 언어교육원) teaches Korean across levels 1–6 covering speaking, listening, reading and writing. A common route is to study Korean here first, then move into a degree program. Apply through the institute's own Korean Language Registration page at https://lei.pusan.ac.kr/page?menuCD=000000000000211, which splits applicants into new students who need a D-4-1 study visa, new students who do not, and enrolled students extending. The institute site has an English toggle but it is a script handler with no separate English address, so there is no linkable English page. Use lei.pusan.ac.kr rather than the International Office's summary page, which still showed 2025 term dates and 2025 fees when we checked in August 2026.

Intakes, deadlines, scholarships, and required documents change every cycle. Rather than list outdated thresholds here, we route you to our official education partners, they confirm the live PNU requirements for your country and program in 48 hours, free.

Tuition, as currently published
Per-semester tuition from PNU's 2026 Fall undergraduate international special admission guideline, in the table headed 2026 Tuition by College and Department (per semester). PNU splits the figure into Tuition Fee I and Tuition Fee II, which matters because several PNU scholarships waive only one of the two.
Admission fee: KRW 0 for every program on this track. Dormitory and meals are billed separately, see the Housing tab.
| Program | Per semester | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Humanities | KRW 2,069,000 | Tuition Fee I 378,000 plus Tuition Fee II 1,691,000 |
| Business Administration | KRW 2,069,000 | |
| Economics and International Trade | KRW 2,069,000 | |
| Social Sciences: Public Administration, Political Science and Diplomacy, Sociology | KRW 2,069,000 | |
| Social Sciences: Social Welfare, Psychology, Library, Archive and Information Studies, Media and Communication | KRW 2,196,000 | |
| Natural Sciences | KRW 2,705,000 | Tuition Fee I 386,000 plus Tuition Fee II 2,319,000 |
| Human Ecology | KRW 2,705,000 | |
| Nursing | KRW 2,705,000 | |
| Global Open Major Division | KRW 2,500,000 | Tuition Fee I 386,000 plus Tuition Fee II 2,114,000 |
| Engineering | KRW 2,932,000 | Tuition Fee I 412,000 plus Tuition Fee II 2,520,000 |

| Arts: Fine Arts, Formative Arts, Dance, Design, Art Culture and Image | KRW 2,867,000 | Tuition Fee I 412,000 plus Tuition Fee II 2,455,000 |
| Natural Resources and Life Sciences | KRW 2,069,000, 2,705,000 or 2,932,000 | Rate depends on the department. Check your exact department in the guideline. |
Figures checked on 3 August 2026 against PNU's own 2026 Fall guideline, which carries the footer that tuition is subject to change. Medicine, Dentistry, Korean Medicine and Pharmacy are absent from the table because they are not open to the international special admission track. Nursing is open and priced at the natural sciences rate. The official fee table lives inside each intake's 모집요강 PDF on the Admission Notice board, and the university-wide 등록금 책정표 sits behind https://onestop.pusan.ac.kr under [등록] then [등록금 책정표]. Treat these as the last published rate, not as a quote for your intake. One more thing to watch: PNU publishes the Tuition Fee I and Tuition Fee II breakdown for only some categories, and we do not show a split where PNU does not publish one. The distinction matters because the TOPIK 4 entry scholarship covers Tuition Fee I only, so confirm the exact split for your own department before you assume what a scholarship covers.

Scholarships
PNU funds international students mainly through tuition waivers tied to TOPIK level and GPA. Nothing here is a full ride with living costs attached. Read the award column carefully, because PNU splits tuition into Fee I and Fee II and several awards cover only one part.
Scholarship for New and Transfer Students (undergraduate)
TOPIK Level 4: full Tuition Fee I. TOPIK Levels 5 and 6: full Tuition Fees I and II.Evaluated automatically from your admission documents. There is no separate application. Applies to your first semester.
Two official PNU pages word this differently. The 2026 Fall admission guideline states Level 4 gives full Tuition Fee I and Levels 5 and 6 give full Tuition Fees I and II, which is what we publish. PNU's general scholarship page words it as Level 6 full tuition, Level 5 full Tuition Fee II, Level 4 full Tuition Fee I. Confirm which wording applies to your intake.
Scholarship for Enrolled Students (undergraduate)
From full tuition down to half of Tuition Fee IIGPA of at least 2.5 out of 4.5, TOPIK Level 4 or above or a qualifying TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC or NEW TEPS score, and at least 12 credits.
Awarded to the top performers in each category, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee an award.
TOPIK Scholarship for Enrolled Students
KRW 400,000 per term, up to 3 timesRaise your TOPIK level after admission and hold a GPA of at least 2.5 out of 4.5.
Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Support Program
KRW 500,000 per month for 10 monthsSelf-financed international undergraduates in years 2 to 4, GPA of at least 80 out of 100, TOPIK Level 4 or above.
A living allowance, not a tuition waiver, and not the government's GKS degree scholarship. Contact intl@pusan.ac.kr. See the note below.
Graduate: First-Year Scholarship and Enrolled Students Scholarship
Information being verifiedBoth exist for graduate students, but the pages we checked in August 2026 did not publish the award amounts or thresholds. Ask the Office of International Affairs.
Graduate teaching assistantship (TA)
Approximately KRW 1,500,000230 or more working hours per semester.
Graduate research assistantship (RA)
Approximately KRW 1,000,000170 or more working hours per semester.
Global Korea Scholarship
Read the name carefully. What PNU calls the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Support Program is a monthly living allowance of KRW 500,000 for 10 months, paid to self-financed international undergraduates who are already enrolled at PNU in years 2 to 4. It is not the Korean government's GKS degree scholarship that covers tuition, airfare and a settlement allowance. Do not budget as if the two are the same thing. PNU does staff GKS administration: the Foreign Student Support Team (외국인지원팀) has a dedicated GKS contact on +82-51-510-3353, hyejungyang@pusan.ac.kr. We could not confirm whether PNU is currently a GKS-designated university, or under which track (Embassy or University), because the government sites studyinkorea.go.kr and niied.go.kr were both unreachable when we checked on 3 August 2026. We are not implying either answer. Ask that team, or our education partners, before you plan around GKS.
Checked on 3 August 2026. Scholarship names, thresholds and amounts are reset by PNU each cycle. Confirm against the guideline for your own intake before you rely on any figure here.

Typical application windows
PNU has published nothing for the 2027 academic year. The windows below are read off PNU's own generic annual admission cycle and are offered as a planning aid only, so you know roughly when to start gathering documents.
These 2027 windows are patterns from previous cycles, not confirmed dates. PNU has not published them. As of 3 August 2026 the most recent post on the Admission Notice board was dated 29 May 2026, and nothing had appeared for the 2027 Spring intake. On PNU's own cycle the Spring 2027 guideline should be posted by late August 2026, so it is worth checking the board again at the end of August. Do not book flights, resign from a job or pay anyone against these windows. Confirm the live dates with the Office of International Affairs or with our education partners first.

Student Life
A national-university crowd, friendly, loud, and outdoors.
PNU's student culture leans into Busan's coastal personality: more festivals than lecture halls, sports day rivalries with Kyungpook National, and a buddy program that pairs every incoming international student with a Korean host.
Clubs & Communities
- Active circles for K-pop dance, traditional samulnori, and a cappella
- Hiking & climbing, Geumjeong Mountain rises directly behind campus
- Language exchange groups (English/Korean) and international student circles
- Surf, beach volleyball, and outdoor clubs that use Busan's coastline
- Academic circles tied to each college (engineering, business, humanities)
Club rosters change each semester, confirm current circles with the International Office on arrival.
The Student District
The streets between Pusan Nat'l Univ. Station and the front gate form one of Busan's best-known student neighborhoods, cafés, food streets, shopping, daily-supply shops, and the NC Department Store PNU branch are all within a 5-minute walk of the gate.
Other useful campus facilities: on-campus banks, the post office in Munchang Hall 2F, the Student Center, and the Hyowon Cultural Center near the main gate.

International Office
Sangnam International Hall, 1F handles ARC, visa, dormitory, insurance, and Student ID. Most communication is available in English.
Daily life still needs Korean
Cafeteria menus, rent signs, and many local errands still run in Korean. Papago, Naver Map, and KakaoMap cover most gaps.
On-Campus Dorms
PNU's Busan campus halls for international students are 진리관 Jilli Hall, 웅비관 Woongbi Hall (BTL) and 자유관 Jayu Hall (BTL), also romanised Woongbee and Jayoo. In the Fall 2026 guideline written for international students, Jilli is offered as single rooms only, Woongbi and Jayu as doubles, and Jayu is a women's hall. That guideline does not price a Jilli double. The Fall 2026 term runs from move-in on 29 August 2026 to move-out by 21 December 2026. Meals are mandatory. PNU's wording is that it is mandatory for all residents in dormitories to have meals, and the meal fee is bundled into the total you pay. Meal cancellation is granted only on Muslim or Hindu religious grounds and must be applied for during the application window, not after you arrive.

Figures are from PNU's Fall 2026 (2026학년도 2학기) dormitory guideline for international students, checked on 3 August 2026. The room charge is listed by PNU as 관리비, a management fee. Fees change every semester, so treat these as the current published rate and not a quote. Before move-in, confirm your assigned hall, room type, meal plan, move-in date and payment deadline with the Dormitory Office (+82-51-510-3881, idorm@pusan.ac.kr).
Off-Campus Rent
A single off-campus room with kitchen and bathroom near PNU Station typically runs KRW 350,000 – 500,000 / month. Korean rent contracts also include a separate deposit and monthly maintenance fee, always compare all three before signing. Useful search tools: Naver 부동산, 직방, 다방.
Never sign sight-unseen. Use a vetted advisor to conduct a physical room check before sending any deposit.

Geumjeong Hall Student Cafeteria (금정회관 학생식당)
Two official PNU pages disagree on the price. The university's own cafeteria page lists 정식 (jeongsik, a set meal) at 5,000 KRW and 일품 (ilpum, a single-dish meal) at 5,000 KRW, with the cafeteria phone as 051-510-1968. PNU's consumer co-op (생협) page lists the same first-floor student cafeteria at 4,000 KRW with the phone 051-510-1963. The university page looks more current, it was serving a live weekly menu when we checked, so we publish 5,000 KRW. Confirm on arrival. The co-op page also gives a single weekday block, 08:00 to 18:30, closed Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, rather than a meal-by-meal split. Neither page publishes weekend or vacation hours.

Libraries & Sports
- PNU runs a 7-subject library system. On the Busan Campus, the Main Library and Library No. 2 host most reading rooms and study spaces.
- Kyungam Gymnasium, fitness room, squash courts, golf practice room, and general gymnasium facilities at student rates.
- Other useful spots: on-campus banks, the post office in Munchang Hall 2F, the Student Center, and the Hyowon Cultural Center near the main gate.

Around the Front Gate
The streets fanning out from Exit 3 form one of Busan's most beloved student hubs, a dense weave of fashion boutiques, indie cosmetics shops, late-night street food, and study cafés. The pedestrian fashion street is a daily destination for trends spilling out of Seoul.
Because PNU anchors a national-university crowd, grocery and dining costs sit significantly below tourist zones like Haeundae or Seomyeon. Expect KRW 6,000 – 9,000 for a full Korean meal and 24-hour convenience around every corner.
