Full Event Poster
About This Event
This Saturday, July 18th at Dububiji, an awesome new venue for cinema, art, and more in the Geumnyeonsan/Gwangan area–Sound and Vision, a monthly film and music series put on in collaboration with HQ Gwangan.
This series will focus on showing some of the best movies about music–documentaries, biopics, concert films, narrative films, and more–accompanied by live performances from local musicians inspired by the sounds in the film.
Additionally every film will be preceded by a pre-party with ephemera related to the film, dumb antics with prizes, and more!
July’s movie is the “The Devil and Daniel Johnston” directed by Jeff Feuerzeig. The winner of Best Documentary Directing Award at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival chronicles cult musician Daniel Johnston’s life from childhood up to middle age as he battles severe bipolar disorder, celebrating his tremendous art and music while tackling his crippling obsession with demons and the devil.
After the film, we’ll have short acoustic live performances from local musicians 김기태 (of Ilgyne, Old Car Collection, and Soumbalgwang) and 한성원 (of Old Car Collection, Tetrapod, and Comemos Nuvem), playing songs by/inspired by Daniel Johnston.
There is a 10,000 Won cover charge, and that money will cover rental costs for the venue and the rest will go to the musicians performing. Additionally there will be snacks and drinks on sale at Dububiji–no outside food/drinks are allowed.
Doors are open at 5:00, the movie starts at 6:00, and music will be right after the movie. If you’re looking for a fun, interesting way to start your Saturday night, things should be done around 8:30 for you to head to your second spot.
